The international department was established in 1996. Since then the international cooperation has been developed at ASTU. Its activity is reflected in numerous cooperative agreements with universities of different countries in Europe and Asia,students, researchers and teachers mobility programs, joint educational and research international projects. The University students’ and teachers’ mobility is based on either bilateral exchange agreements or international exchange programs - for example, First, North2North, BCS and Erasmus Mundus Programmes. At present the university is involved in 15 international projects.

The International Department coordinates the international cooperation of Arkhangelsk State Technical University with 25 higher educational institutions in Germany, Norway, Finland, Sweden, and the USA. Every year over 100 students study for a term abroad at partner institutions within the academic exchange programs. Starting from 1997 Arkhangelsk State Technical University took part in 9 TEMPUST/TACIS projects funded by the European Union. Arkhangelsk State Technical University is a member of the University of the Arctic and takes part in the projects within the Barents-region cooperation.

The staff of the International department ASTU is helpful and gives advices to those who is willing to study abroad, to apply for the international project, to establish contacts with foreign partners, help with visa and residence permit applications, migration issues, prepare invitations for the foreign partners and students, organize international events.
