UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES IN SPECIALITIES :
CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY OF WOOD. Qualification — engineer.
Specializations:
- Chemical technology of pulp and paper industry
- Technology of wood chemical industry and bioactive substances
- Product certification and chemical control of chemical wood-processing products
Training of chemical engineers has been carried out in AFEI-ASTU for more than 75 years. On completion this programme the graduates are employed in largest enterprises of pulp and paper industry, newly established enterprises of wood chemical industry to process needles, leaves and twigs, to obtain and process charcoal and activated carbon, and many other valuable products. Many students do research work and can be employed in the following positions: process engineer, project and design engineer, research worker. Career prospects for chemists are available in all branches of national economy. Training for this programme is ranked as excellent. Recently the programme in product certification and chemical control of various products was started.
The programme is aimed at full-time students (lasts for 5 years) and part-time students (lasts for 6 years), and can be studied both on budgetary and contractual basis.
Metrology engineers control products (services) and manufacturing processes, equipment of enterprises and testing laboratories, work out methods and tools of measurement, test and control, normative documentation, systems of quality standardization, certification and control, provide metrological support of scientific, industrial, social and environmental spheres. Chief metrologist in the company is the head of metrology service which deals with automation systems of manufacturing processes, installation, repair and maintenance of control and measuring instruments.
The programme is aimed at full-time students (lasts for 5 years), and can be studied both on budgetary and contractual basis.
The graduates operate devices, systems, complexes and main medical equipment. They also work out methods of research, therapeutic intervention, data processing in the sphere of medical care and different areas of biomedical testing. Newly introduced area of training is aimed at developing and operating medical computer systems and telehealth centres and studios. Career prospects are available in city and regional hospitals, polyclinics, enterprises and companies producing medical devices, research and development institutes and laboratories.
The programme is aimed at full-time students (lasts for 5 years), and can be studied both on budgetary and contractual basis.
Specializations:
- Quality management in industry
- Quality management in socioeconomics
- Quality management in information systems
An engineer-manager deals with designing systems of quality management, providing their effective functioning, meeting quality requirements of processes, goods, services and products of the company’s activity. When training specialists in quality management focus is placed on studying computer, economic and management subjects (personnel management, management and financial accounting, management, etc). The fields of the graduates’ professional activity are as follows: management, organization, economics, audit, information analysis, innovations, consulting and teaching. At present quality management systems (QMS) are established in most of enterprises and companies. Such systems allow to increase competitive power of the company’s goods and services. The programme is aimed at full-time students (lasts for 5 years), and can be studied both on budgetary and contractual basis.
CHEMISTRY. Qualification — chemist.
The programme was started in 2007. Training is organized in the department of theoretical and applied chemistry being the centre of chemical studies conducted collectively with M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University. In 2001 the department was reorganized into intercollegiate department MSU-ASTU.
Knowledge gained allow the graduates to be employed in research and development institutes, industrial enterprises, chemical and chemistry-related laboratories, educational institutions, also in the area of appraisal and services, customs offices and criminalistic laboratories.
The programme is aimed at full-time students (lasts for 5 years), and can be studied both on budgetary and contractual basis.
BACHELOR’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES:
CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY. Degree obtained — a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and technology.
The programme prepares its graduates for a wide range of employment opportunities related to those branches of industry which deal with the use of microorganisms and enzymes. They are pulp and paper industry, production of vegetable and carbohydrate feed, ethyl alcohol and ethanol fuel, bakery and feeding yeast, biological treatment of sewage water, etc. There appeared branches of biotechnology: food, agriculture, medicine, energy, environment, biogeotechnology, bioelectronics.
The programme is aimed at full-time students (lasts for 4 years), and can be studied on budgetary and contractual basis. On completion the programme the graduates may study full-time for a Master’s degree programme (lasts for 2 years).
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION. Degree obtained — a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and technology.
The fields of the graduates’ professional activity are: developing, designing, setting up, operating and updating environment-oriented equipment and technology; organizing and managing environmental activity in enterprises and industrial complexes; surveying projects, technologies, industrial enterprises, certifying products to increase environmental safety of human household activity, to reduce human impact on the environment. Bachelor’s degree holders may be employed in environmental authority and supervisory authority of environmental safety, in the systems of environmental control and management.
The programme is aimed at full-time students (lasts for 4 years), and can bes tudied on budgetary and contractual basis. On completion the programme the graduates may study full-time for a Master’s degree programme (lasts for 2 years).
The faculty offers a number of well-equipped laboratories, well-qualified teaching staff (more than 20 professors); it cooperates with industrial enterprises, firms, centres and organizations. The faculty also has a board on thesis defence. To train specialists of international level the faculty offers study placements for its students in educational institutions, certification centres and firms of the USA, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland and other countries. Nine graduates of the Chemical Engineering Faculty completed Master’s degree programmes in Sweden. The students are engaged in research work (the faculty trains 30 postgraduate students, and offers a Master’s degree programme), take part in interuniversity conferences, academic competitions, amateur talent groups and do sports.
Career opportunities for the faculty graduates are available in Solombala, Arkhangelsk, Kotlas pulp and paper enterprises, also in different enterprises, companies and institutions of the region and the country. A number of graduates are employed in colleges, universities and industrial enterprises of Norway, Sweden, Finland and the USA. |
